May 2009: Bakewell photographers celebrate another year of success and welcome new members

The Circle has just been presented with two new trophies by Meg Jullien, the Circle’s secretary – the Jullien Trophy, and Chris Swaap – the Bolehill Trophy, Both of them are to be presented for digital projected images and are both designed and made in pewter by Sheffield craft workers. The winner of the Jullien trophy was Rob Askew and the Bolehill trophy Ian Daisley, the new Chairman.
The other trophies were won by Jim Edmondson, who won the Chairman’s Trophy for best colour prints, the Marchant Brooks Trophy for best monochrome prints, the Seville trophy for colour print of the year, the Whirlow Rose Bowl for monochrome print of the year, the D & B Carnelly trophy for the maximum points gained and the Kut Rite Rose bowl for the best colour print in the Theme competition., The Wright Trophy for the best monochrome print in the Theme competition was won by Garry Wingrove, the Rhoda Paget Rose Bowl for the best slide was won by Keith Alllchin and the Jubilee Rose Bowl for the best slide in the Theme competition was won by Les Nixon. Rob Askew won the won the newly presented Jullien trophy in the projected digital image section, and Ian Daisley won the newly presented Bolehill trophy for the best projected digital image in the Theme competition.The Committee’s award, the Mettam Memorial trophy, which is presented each year to the most promising new member and for services to the Circle, was won by Hilary Tann. Hilary won the Best Natural History award in the North and East Midlands Photographic FederationExhibition in January this year.
The Circle has enjoyed another successful year with many members exhibiting their images and winning awards at exhibitions throughout the country. The North and East Midlands Photographic Federation Hiscox trophy for monochrome prints was one of the most notable, and the Circle came third in the Chesterfield trophy for colour prints. The Circle entered 110 prints from eleven members and had 35 accepted, also winning nine major awards. The Federation has 47 member clubs. Altogether a very successful year and celebrated in style at the Annual Dinner. The Chairman for the last four years, Garry Wingrove retired, and Ian Daisley, the new Chairman took over the reins. Thanks were expressed to Garry for all his work over the years. Thanks were also expressed to Jim Edmondson for his weekly digital course at Over Haddon Village Hall which brings in many new members to the Circle.
