BAKEWELL PHOTOGRAPHERS CELEBRATE ANOTHER YEAR OF SUCCESS
Bakewell Photographic Circle’s Annual Dinner and trophy presentation was held at the Wheatsheaf Hotel at Bakewell on the 17th May 2010. 29 Members and guests attended and enjoyed a most entertaining evening, an exhibition of prints, and a digital projected image show. Linda Dyson arranged the Dinner and thanks are due to the many members who helped to make the evening a success.
Jim Edmondson won a total of six trophies - the Chairman’s Trophy for best colour prints, the Marchant Brooks Trophy for best monochrome prints, the Seville trophy for colour print of the year, the Whirlow Rose Bowl for monochrome print of the year, the D & B Carnelly trophy for the maximum points gained, and the Wright Trophy for the best monochrome print in the Theme competition . The other trophies were won by Les Nixon - Rhoda Paget Rose Bowl for the best slides and the Peak Trophy for the best digital projected image of the year. Rob Askew won the Jullien trophy for the best total marks for the best projected digital images over the year, Ian Daisley won the Bolehill trophy for the best digital image in the Theme competition, Keith Allchin (seen here being presented with the Mellor Rose Bowl for the best slide of the year by Jackie Daisley, the Chairman’s wife), Derek Phillips (seen nere being presented with the Kutrite Rose Bowl for the best colour print in the Theme competition by Jackie Daisley, the Chairman’s wife) and Meg Jullien won the Jubilee Rose Bowl for the best slide in the Theme competition. The Committee’s award, the Mettam Memorial trophy, which is presented each year for services to the Circle was awarded to Richard Corkill.
The Circle has enjoyed another successful year with many members exhibiting their images and winning awards at exhibitions throughout the country. The North and East Midlands Photographic Federation Hiscox trophy for monochrome prints was one of the most notable, and Jim Edmondson won one of the eight coveted medals in the London Salon plus one acceptance Altogether a very successful year and celebrated in style at the Annual Dinner.Thanks were also expressed to Jim Edmondson for his weekly digital course at Over Haddon Village Hall which brings in many new members to the Circle. The Annual outing on 9th May was enjoyed immensely by members, and this year the outing was to the Mining Museum near Wakefield with a trip down the mine and then on to the Tropical World at Leeds. The outing was arranged by Bryan Bennett. A most successful exhibition of members’ work was held in the Bakewell Tourist Information Centre from April 29th to the 17th May.
The Circle meets fortnightly from September to April in the Friends’ Meeting House, Chapel Lane, Bakewell on Mondays at 7.45p.m. and new members and visitors are always welcome. The next meeting will be on Monday the 6th September 2010 and will feature several ten minute presentations by members and a trophy which is awarded for the best image taken on the outing..
