Meetings
Meetings are held fortnightly on Monday evenings at the Friends' Meeting House, Chapel Row, Matlock Street, Bakewell.They begin at 7:30pm for 7:45pm. There is a break for refreshments and the meetings finish at about 10:00pm.
Visitors and new members are welcome and we have a full programme of lectures, workshops and competitions. The season's meetings start in September and continue until the end of April. They conclude with the annual dinner and trophy awards ceremony in May.
Subscriptions
Annual subscriptions are as follows:Single : £27.00
Double : £40.50
New members half price subscription for the first year. Students in full time education are invited to join us free of charge. Visitors are welcome at £3 per meeting.
A free Photoshop and Light room Workshop is available most Thursday afternoons at 1:30pm in the Village Hall, Over Haddon. Join Jim Edmondson to improve your digital photo skills. Beginner’s intermediate and Advanced workers are all welcome. The workshop is free but a £1:50 fee is payable to the Village Hall. Trophy Competition Rules
1. General rulesFor each bi-monthly, theme or annual competition members may enter up to two colour prints and/or two monochrome prints and/or two projected digital images. The title and author’s name should be shown on the back of each print, which preferably should be not less than A4 size, or greater than 40 x 50 cm mounted. Each digital projected image should bear the title and author’s name. Except for the Annual competition, images must NOT have been entered previously in a Bakewell Photographic Circle trophy competition. An image cannot be entered in more than one category.
All images and titles for club competitions should be sent by email to chris.swaap@ncap.co.uk by the Sunday prior to the competition night.
This should include the titles of all entries. Images for the digital competitions should be sized 1024 x 768 pixels.
2. Bi-monthly competitions (any subject)
Three bi-monthly competitions are held during the season, and a trophy is awarded in each of the colour print, monochrome print and digital projected image categories. Each entry is marked out of 20 and the entrant with the highest cumulative total in each category is awarded a trophy.
3. Theme competition. (subject restricted to a theme chosen at the AGM).
A trophy is awarded to the entrant with the highest mark (out of 20) in each of the colour print, monochrome print and digital projected image categories. The images must have been taken after the immediately preceding AGM.
4. Annual competition
A trophy is awarded for the colour print of the year, the monochrome print of the year and the projected digital image of the year, to the entrant with the highest mark for an entry in each category. The entries for the competition MUST have been entered in one of the Bakewell Photographic Circle’s trophy competitions during the current season.
5. Points competition
A trophy is awarded to the entrant with the highest total marks in EITHER the colour print or the monochrome print or the projected digital image categories from the bi-monthly, theme and annual competitions combined, whichever category gives the highest total.
6. Jack Mettam memorial trophy
A trophy is awarded annually for the best novice or for new work, or other outstanding service to the Circle during the season. Nominations for the trophy are to be made prior o the AGM by members. The winner is decided by the committee.
The trophies are awarded at the Annual Dinner
